Our Dogs

Red Hill Riggs – retired 💕

Click for Larger

Riggs is our stud dog. An extremely friendly, gentle, laid back dog… until it’s time to run, at which time we haven’t met a dog yet, that can keep up with him.

Though Riggs is not yet proven in the field with acclaims and awards, in all other facets, he’s what we call, a 1 in 30 dog. A dog that only comes around once in thirty years. A truly good dog, that is so eager to please, he’s 100% reliable and a pure pleasure to have at your side.

Piccolo Latte’s Strong Brew – retired 💕

Click for Larger

Piccolo comes from strong hunting lines. She is wickedly smart which gives her a streak of independence. She’s eager to please, but isn’t a velcro dog–in fact, she prefers to be out in the field or woods, hunting and exploring. Despite her size, we call her the “bulldozer” due to the fact that once she gets something in her mind, she’ll go through anything, usually in a straight line, to get it–thorn bushes, barbed wire fence, snakes, fire… Piccolo don’t care.
While Piccolo doesn’t often seek out affection throughout the day, come bed-time she is an absolute mush. Piccolo will hover over a sleeping human for 20 minutes frozen in place, refusing to move until they make room for her.

Move Over Monday
Mizuki by Moonlight – retired 💕

Click for Larger

Of all the breeds and all the dogs we’ve owned over a combined 80+ years, Mizuki is the happiest friendliest dog we’ve ever met. Since bringing her home at 8 weeks, we’ve been met every single morning with excessive face licks and a wagging butt. She’s also the only dog we own, where if you lean into her at anytime, she will reach up and meet you with a kiss. We didn’t teach her that.
Mizuki has stand out conformation and is simply a beautiful dog. When her nose isn’t to the ground, her eyes are to the sky tracking birds (or bats, or butterflies). A trigger pointing instinct, completely natural retrieve, natural heel, and relentless energy make her exceptional.

Hill Street Kind of Blue

We kept Blue from a Piccolo Riggs litter as a successor to his father for our line.
At 8 months Blue was a bit bigger than his dad. He’s got his father’s gentle demeanor, with his mother’s energy, and perhaps the best nose in the pack. Where Riggs has elegance and agility when running,  Blue’s large paws, slightly bigger bone structure, and powerful gait, give him a thoroughbred-like look when charging the field.
Unfortunately those same qualities allow him to push us off the bed in the middle of the night; one of the few manners of Blue we really don’t appreciate.

  • Because Blue comes from Riggs and Piccolo, we did not run any additional health screenings. While we still might do his OFA at some point, we have full confidence in his hips and elbows.

Not a proper stack, but a rare moment when Roka is not moving at mach 2.

Black Orchid Fox

Roka (Fox in Hungarian) is our solid black GSP female. She’s a “fine” girl meaning small and dainty, being thinner boned, and just under breed standard weight. (We suspect her smaller size is at least in part from catching Parvo as a pup.)

She’s a quirky dog full of personality: for example in the morning she’ll jump on top of you and just stand there in complete silence, not moving, with her nose one inch away from your nose. When she plays with us, she may enter “licker mode,” in which she will go into a frenzy doing everything and anything she can to lick your ear; not your eye, cheek, or chin, but only your ear. She’s got to get that ear! When she wants to go out to use the bathroom, she’ll walk up to someone sitting down and throw one back leg over them (so she looks like a male dog peeing, but she’s not peeing, just letting you know what’s up.)  Like I said, she’s got quirks.

From a pup, Roka has carried herself at times with a slightly bent back. Most regular folks wouldn’t even notice, but as breeders we spotted it. Cleared of issue by two vets, we still weren’t sure if there was a deeper skeletal issue and in turn weren’t sure we would add her to our breeding program. At 22 months of age we did her hips and elbow xrays for OFA… and also imaged her spine.

Her spine looks fine with no issues. Our imaging vet said her hips looked about as perfect as they can get! The OFA labeled them Good, her elbows normal.

Roka is the fastest dog in our kennel. She’s a black blur who would likely dominate agility. Her smaller frame also makes her wickedly nimble. We joke and sometimes refer to her as Black Orchid NINJA Fox. She has an extremely soft bite and endless endurance.

With a lower inbreeding coefficient (fancy genetic stuff), surprisingly good hips, and overall good health in other respects we’ve decided to give her a litter and see what kind of mother she is and what she produces.
